Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Volunteer program, including recruitment, training and scheduling of individual and group volunteers for our different programs. The Volunteer Manager works closely with the Development department to coordinate special visitor groups, support special events, and assist with other projects as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer Program Management:

  • Maintain and grow volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed.
  • Work closely with all program and department managers to periodically assess needs for volunteer expertise and level of volunteer staffing
  • Develop and maintain process to review applications, check references, screen and interview potential individual volunteers
  • Manage comprehensive orientation process for new volunteers that includes information about volunteering with different departments
  • Work closely with all program and department managers to ensure that volunteer positions are sufficiently filled and volunteers enjoy a positive experience
  • Maintain daily volunteer scheduling both internally and externally
  • Maintain the volunteer database
  • Provide accurate and timely volunteer data for funder and volunteer-requested reports
  • Engage with existing volunteers daily and provide feedback and additional guidance as needed
  • Maintain ongoing communications with volunteers through email news blasts, newsletters and print materials
  • Serve as liaison between our Executive Leadership Team and individual volunteers
  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation and training activities throughout the year
  • Develop and administer an annual volunteer satisfaction survey

Development Operations:

  • Serve as an ambassador for Aging True in relations with volunteers and organizations
  • Participate in special event planning throughout the year; participate in events as needed
  • Identify high profile volunteers and make connections with the development team
  • Work closely and communicate regularly with the development team on key events
  • Staff development events including signature events and other fundraisers

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • experience in fundraising and/or volunteer programs is preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Experience building relationships with individuals, organizations and businesses
  • Ability to think strategically about volunteer linkages to development and operations
  • Experience in planning and managing small events

Communications Skills:

  • Strong listening, speaking and writing skills
  • Able to manage in-person requests and phone/email contacts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Enthusiasm
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Database management
  • Proficiency using Internet
  • Commitment to a team approach of working with staff members, volunteers and guests
