Volunteer

Our dedicated volunteers are vital partners in the services we provide. They interact with, serve and learn from the amazing seniors who live in and helped to build our community. Whether volunteering for a one-time event or a continuous service role, join Aging True’s growing team of volunteers today!

Volunteer Opportunities

Call Aging True at 904-807-1246 to inquire about volunteer opportunities, or email us at [email protected]. All volunteers will be provided with orientation and training relevant to their service opportunity. For the safety of our clients, criminal background checks are conducted on volunteers.

Unless otherwise indicated, all volunteer opportunities take place during business hours, Monday through Friday.

Meals on Wheels (MOW)

Deliver more than a meal – provide kind words, a warm smile and a community connection to seniors. Individuals and groups, such as offices, churches, civic organizations and fraternities/sororities, can become meal-delivery volunteers. Every weekday, Aging True staff produces and packages over 700 meals for seniors in Clay and Duval Counties. While Aging True staffs drivers, volunteer drivers help us reach clients that we otherwise could not.

Meals on Wheels volunteers pick up meals from a designated drop site (usually a church or small business) in or nearest to their preferred zip code and deliver to the route given to them at least once a month. A volunteer route typically covers less than 10 miles and can be completed within 60 minutes. Volunteers must provide their own transportation.

The Meals on Wheels program operates from Monday – Friday, with many volunteers picking up meals from drop sites around 9 – 10 AM, depending on the area.

R.E.L.I.E.F.

Aging True’s RELIEF program is open to volunteers ages 18 and older who can provide respite to caregivers by spending time with seniors. RELIEF volunteers visit seniors for a short period and provide opportunities for exercise, social interaction, and motivation. They are also encouraged to foster contact with the senior’s family members through calls, letters, or emails which they help write.

RELIEF is a government-funded volunteer opportunity. Volunteers receive a small stipend for their volunteer hours, along with mileage reimbursement, to offset the cost of serving as a companion to their assigned senior client.

All RELIEF volunteers must undergo a background check and an interview with the volunteer manager. If you are interested in participating in the RELIEF program, email Francine Castillo ([email protected]) with your name and phone number for more information.

Cathedral Cafe (Group Volunteer Opportunity)

Open to groups of volunteers of up to 5 individuals per day, the Cathedral Cafe serves as Aging True’s congregate meal site in downtown Jacksonville. The Cathedral Cafe is located inside our senior residence at 701 N Ocean St. Tuesday through Thursday, the site serves hot meals made fresh each day. Volunteers are requested to socialize with the seniors and disabled at the Cafe, set up, serve, and help clean after lunch. The Cafe is a fantastic opportunity for corporations, families, and organizations to spend a quick two hours supporting seniors.

Special Events

Aging True periodically holds special events such as golf tournaments, holiday gift drives, Thanksgiving meal delivery, and special activities or parties for our clients.
